Web Map Developers

Hire a Leaflet, Mapbox & MapLibre developer who knows the trade-offs

We build the map layer of your web app, from lightweight Leaflet maps to WebGL vector-tile maps with 3D terrain in MapLibre GL JS. Our focus is rendering performance, clean cartography and running costs that don't grow with every page view.

Choosing the Right Library

Leaflet vs Mapbox GL JS vs MapLibre GL JS, explained by developers who use all three

Leaflet is small, stable and BSD-licensed, ideal for raster basemaps and moderate GeoJSON overlays. Mapbox GL JS and MapLibre GL JS render vector tiles on the GPU with WebGL, so they handle millions of features, smooth rotation and pitch, and 3D terrain. OpenLayers remains the strongest choice when you need custom projections or heavy use of OGC services such as WMS, WFS and WMTS.

Licensing is where teams get surprised. Since version 2, Mapbox GL JS is distributed under a proprietary license, requires a Mapbox access token, and is billed per map load even if your tiles come from your own server. MapLibre GL JS is the community-maintained open-source fork of Mapbox GL JS v1, with a near-identical API, active development and no token. For many products, MapLibre plus self-hosted vector tiles is the cost-effective, lock-in-free option.

As a Leaflet, Mapbox & MapLibre developer team, Codeinspira handles library selection, style design, plugin integration, large-dataset performance and Mapbox-to-MapLibre migration. Our experience comes from production WebGIS work such as a national land geoportal for Indonesia's ATR/BPN and an EUDR traceability platform for PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, where maps had to stay responsive over country-scale polygon data.

SaaS products

Map features inside a product whose costs must stay flat as the user base grows.

Agriculture and plantations

Field, block and concession maps with fire hotspot overlays filterable by estate.

Government open-data portals

Public geoportals that publish large land-use or cadastral polygon layers.

Real estate and valuation

Property maps combining parcel geometry with valuation attributes and comparables.

Logistics and fleet

Live vehicle positions, routes and service zones on a single performant map.

NGOs and research

Story maps and monitoring dashboards that must run on modest hosting budgets.

Why Codeinspira

Map developers who fix performance at the source

We own the whole path from raw geodata to pixels in the browser.

01

Full-stack geospatial skills

Our team also runs PostGIS and GeoServer, so slow maps are fixed in the tiling and query layer, not just patched in JavaScript. That usually means bigger and more durable speed gains.

02

Vendor-neutral advice

We resell no map platform or license. Whether we recommend Leaflet, Mapbox or MapLibre depends only on your requirements and long-term cost.

03

Proven on large datasets

National geoportals and EUDR compliance platforms demand stable maps over very large polygon layers. We apply the same tiling and styling patterns to your project.

FAQ

FAQ: Leaflet, Mapbox & MapLibre Developer

Should I use Leaflet, Mapbox GL JS or MapLibre GL JS?
Leaflet suits simple maps with raster basemaps and moderate GeoJSON. MapLibre GL JS suits large datasets, vector tiles and 3D without token costs. Mapbox GL JS makes sense when you actively want Mapbox's hosted basemaps, search and other paid services.
Is Mapbox GL JS still open source?
No. Since v2 (released in late 2020), Mapbox GL JS uses a proprietary license, requires an access token and is billed per map load under Mapbox's pricing. MapLibre GL JS continues the open-source v1 codebase under a BSD license.
How much does it cost to hire a Leaflet, Mapbox & MapLibre developer?
Cost depends on the number of layers, data size, custom styling, interaction features and whether a self-hosted tile server is needed. We give a scoped estimate after a free consultation, as a fixed-scope project, dedicated developer or retainer.
How long does a Mapbox to MapLibre migration take?
If you only use the map library and a style, the code change is usually small because the APIs are very similar. Most of the effort goes into replacing Mapbox-hosted tiles, fonts, sprites and geocoding with self-hosted or alternative services.
My map freezes with large GeoJSON files. Can you fix it?
Yes. We typically convert the data to vector tiles, simplify geometry per zoom level and send only the attributes the UI needs. For frequently changing data we serve tiles directly from PostGIS.
Which data formats can you work with?
Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML/KMZ, GeoPackage, Esri File Geodatabase, GeoTIFF and CSV/Excel with coordinates. We convert everything into the most efficient format for web delivery using GDAL/OGR.
Where are the maps and tiles hosted?
On your AWS or GCP account, your on-premise servers or a private cloud. Everything is containerized with Docker so you are never tied to our infrastructure.
Who owns the code, and do you sign NDAs?
You own all source code, style JSON and server configuration, delivered in your repository. We are happy to sign your NDA before seeing any data.
